Before starting the process, answer yourself one question:
Are you determinant enough to take apart of your Keurig?
Now, why this question? Usually, because of slow coffee flow, people start thinking that its time to disassemble and take apart from it. But if the slow flow is the only issue, then you don’t need to separate its parts. The reason behind it, maybe the coffee grounds stick around needles.
Here’s the way to handle this issue:
Open up K-cup compartment of your Keurig. Here, inside the compartment lid, you will get a sharp-edged needle surrounded by a rubber gasket. You need to remove this gasket, but be aware and careful while doing this as the needle is quite sharp.
Take a paper clip and straighten it out. Check here, beyond the needle you will find two holes. After locating these holes, push the paper clip inside it to remove the trapped coffee grounds.
The K-cup plastic holder also holds a needle. So, take this plastic holder out. Now clean its sharp needle carefully by using a damp cloth.
Now drag the funnel to isolate it from K-cup holder. And, if it seems difficult to pull, then you can take the help of a screwdriver. If the Keurig has holes on the side, then use the screwdriver into these holes along with pushing it by using your thumb.
Another hole you can see in the top section. Now again its turn of the paper clip, take it and prod it there. You’ve done. Place these two halves together. Plug your Keurig and brew the coffee. If clogging was an issue, then after applying this trick, it will no longer trouble you at all.
However, if the problem persists, then follow the following steps to disassemble the Keurig.
Before in-depth exploration, have a look on some precautions:
You need to implement these precautions for sure before starting the disassembling process:
- Switch off the button and unplug your Keurig to save yourself from any risk of electric shock while disassembling.
- Take some towels and place the coffee maker on that. It will save Keurig from any damage while moving around, plus, if water gets leaked out, then these towels will absorb that without staining the surface.
Let’s start! Firstly go through this video quickly, before starting the disassembling process. Here is it:
So, you have watched the video and got an idea of what we are going to do. Now your first step would be to depart the drip tray, water reservoir and pull away from the K-cup holder. You are well acquainted with it, so you can come off all these without using any special tool.
After this, you need to remove casing which is not as easy to remove as the earlier parts were. For this, flip down the coffee maker and take a screwdriver to remove all screws from the base plate. However, if the base is attached to wires, then cut it in a way that you can reassemble it easily after repairing your Keurig. But before that, double check that you have unplugged the machine.
(Tip: Keep all screws in a separate bag, like, you’ll remove screws from top part and the whole Keurig coffee pot, so, to avoid confusion while reassembling, you can keep separate bags and write by using marker about the source of these screws. Now, reassembling would be quite easy.)
Remove the screws of the plastic collar
The Keurig bottom will have four screws holding the plastic collar. You will find two screws on the front side alongside the drip tray, and the other two will be at the back. Our work is to unscrew all these screws.
Here, you will notice a metal clamp that ties, the white plastic adjunct to the silicone tube. This while plastic attachment is, pump. You need to lightly pull the silicon boot off the pump which you will find at the end of the silicone tube. Now, slip the power cable out of the plastic groove at the bottom.
Removal of tube
Now the base has been detached, so locate the water pump & tubing. You will notice that tubing is attached to the water reservoir. This tube has LED light, illuminating water reservoir. You need to remove this tube carefully as its completely connected to several wires.
(Tip: Here, you will notice white and red colored wires, powering up the LED light. If the light is not working suitably, then it’s a clear sign that wires have got damaged and you need to get it repaired or replaced in the market.)
The tubing that you have removed encases this LED lighting. So, if the LED light was a matter of concern, then you need to get the tube replaced instead of wires.

Continue your effort
Now again, you need to remove some more screws. You’ll see here, the main water pump attached to the bottom having four screws connecting these both. Your work is to remove these screws.
You have removed all screws, so now lift off the bottom gradually. Remember, don’t pull the tubing aggressively, otherwise, it may get damaged in another way. The base is still attached to power code, so, be careful while lifting it off. Pull this cord and take off the Keurig base.
Separate the top of Keurig
You have fortunately removed the bottom, and now your mission is to disassemble the top of Keurig where you insert K-cups.
Finally, you have opened up the top and watched some screws here. Remove all these screws that you will find one on handle’s every side and two on the needle’s side. You can now easily take off the Keurig handle after unscrewing all these screws.
Ultimately, you can lift off the lid and handle from the top after detaching all screws mentioned above. Again, same instruction for you, don’t pull it harshly, instead take it off gently. To lift off both of these, you can slightly close the lid. Now you can separate the handle and lid easily.
You have taken off the handle. Now take a hex screwdriver and check two screws on the inner side of the top and remove it.
Time to take apart the body casing
You have luckily pulled out the bottom and top part, so, now it’s time to dismantle the body part. To do this, you need to damage the interior plastic of it slightly. It’s imperative to do.
Now flip the Keurig coffee maker upside down to split up a silver top plate from plastic body. Use a flathead screwdriver or alike long shafted tool to dismantle three clip hinges (of plastic) there. You need to go in from the lower side to reach these clips. These capture the body’s top plate. While trying to separate it, it may get damaged, however, from the outer part, it will not show any damage when you join these together.
Here, you will see the LCD screen meeting black body casing with silver top casing, here you need to work on the clip inside it. Your work would be to pop apart the clip. For this, insert long handled flathead by using a hammer into the right spot of this clip.
Now, it’s time to locate the second and third clips. You will get it on the back side of the body. Find these clips on the corners you will get it quickly there. The back is curved, and if it is squared, then you will find the clips on the edges.
As you have located the clips positively, so, now the time is to dismantle all of these. For this, use a hammer and long-handled tool. Make sure there are no significant internal damage results in while you depart the silver or gray top plate from the black body. It may consume your time, but don’t worry, your focus must be on having least damage so that during re-assembling you don’t face any issue and put everything together effortlessly.
You can see here, how the clip will appear when you get it off from the body.
You have finally done it. Remember, this tutorial will guide you the starting step to disassemble your Keurig.
