I have a confession to make: despite my love for social media, I am very much old school when it comes to day planners.  I can’t do the electronic calendars. I like to physically cross things off lists. It’s validating. (Next confession: I make a lot of lists). And even worse, I am a day planner snob. Every Fall, I look forward to the quest for my next year’s day planner. And last year I found a great one, thanks to fellow Prairie Hiver Lisa’s suggestion. It is a SmartDate System by russell + hazel found locally at The Inviting Place. This baby has been my favorite planner since ever. It has the monthly calendars and daily to-do pages laid out just the way I like them, has a lot of customizable options, is a great size and is so pretty.  Well… was.

Another confession: I am sometimes clumsy. Nice, pretty… light blue… day planners and clumsy tea-drinkers do not mix well. So imagine my disappointment in myself when I dribbled some hot tea and it left a hefty watermark across the cover of my favorite keeper of my calendar.  I really should have known better than to purchase a solid, pastel-colored anything. The bright side is that I made it all the way to September before ruining it!

Of course it was still usable, but it had lost its shiny new appearance, and became quite dingy looking.  Therefore, I decided it needed a facelift. So I skipped off to Hobby Lobby to grab some supplies.

I found a fabric that complements the color of the planner’s cover and ironed it onto a fusible web material.

Then I used pinking shears to cut out a shape that would wrap the planner and hide the giant stain.

Next, I peeled off the paper backing on the other side of the fusible web material and pressed it onto the planner’s cover.

It was getting there and already looked fresher, but needed just a little bit more. I had purchased a Clover “Quick Yo-yo Maker”, so I cut up my ‘accent fabric’ into 3 1/8″ squares, followed the included instructions and made a handful of yo-yo’s to add some embellishment.

Super glued those puppies onto the new fabric covering… and voila! My baby is back in action. It’s like a brand new planner that will last me at least through the remainder of the year, and hopefully much longer!
